Maximizing Employee Performance with TTI Success Insights

I love working with a suite of organization and talent assessments. Plenty of organizations use TTI Success Insights’ DISC, and DISC is good; we use it too. But any single instrument can only tell you so much, and what I’ve come to appreciate over the years is the depth you get from layering several sciences together.

π——π—œπ—¦π—–

Describes observable behavior and it’s easy to grasp. It tends to produce those quick, helpful β€œaha” moments when people finally understand why someone close to them operates so differently.

π——π—Ώπ—Άπ˜ƒπ—Άπ—»π—΄ π—™π—Όπ—Ώπ—°π—²π˜€

Goes a layer deeper than DISC, giving DISC behaviors context (a kind of 2D high fidelity). Drawn from human motivation (personal interests, attitudes and values), it gets underneath behavior to what actually drives a person, and where they find reward and meaning in their work.

π—˜π—€

Was popularized by Daniel Goleman (Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ, originally published in 1995) based on extensive research from 1920s – 1980s and is still undertaught and underpracticed. EQ is actually a skill, which means it responds to effort and attention. In 1998, groundbreaking leadership research showcased that EI was the primary differentiator in executive performance. Corporate giants, starting with Johnson & Johnson, began funding extensive field studies. This empirical data proved that high-EQ managers directly boosted business metrics, including employee retention, team alignment, and overall corporate profitability.

The Acumen Capacity Index or ACI is one of the most powerful assessments we use. It reveals the lens a person uses to interpret the world, which fundamentally shapes the way we lead and respond to the environment (measures how a person thinks or perceives information). The ACI measures the capacity and clarity of understanding the world and self, while revealing the blind spots that are created by emotional biases. Whether you’re developing leaders, selecting talent, or coaching for growth, ACI provides the insight you need to enhance judgment and optimize performance.

DNA (Developed Skills)

This assessment reveals how 25 essential workplace competencies (developed skills) show up in real time, but it’s more than a skills list. DNA delivers a clear, actionable story about how someone connects, thinks, and gets work done. The DNA report by TTI Success Insights features factor-analysis scoring for greater precision, a report layout organized into three intuitive domains, a dynamic, personalized language, practical coaching tips and growth activities, and insightful condition and trigger prompts to support facilitation. The three intuitive domains addressed Thinking (cognitive skills that support analysis, learning, creativity, and sound judgment), Working (execution skills that drive initiative, follow-through, and goal-directed action), and Relating (relational skills that build trust, connection and collaboration.

Each of these assessments opens a different window onto talent and leadership effectiveness, and together they show a fuller person than any single tool can. If you’ve only ever worked from a one-dimensional picture, there’s a good deal more worth seeing. The power of being a TTI Success Insights partner is the ability to administer any combination of the five sciences summarized above.

The Secret Power of An Assessment Suite Over Single-Science EQ Assessments

The Nielson Group offers highly valid and reliable emotional intelligence metrics through its partnership with TTI Success Insights (TTI SI). As one example, in addition to the standalone EQ test, we deliver EQ data embedded within multi-science talent diagnostics like TriMetrix EQ and TriMetrix HD.

From an organizational psychology standpoint, here is an objective breakdown of the validity, reliability, and methodology of the assessment suite we offer:

Psychometric Validity and Reliability

The TTI Success Insights EQ assessment utilized by The Nielson Group is strictly backed by rigorous psychometric testing.

  • Reliability (Consistency): The tool maintains strong internal consistency (measured via Cronbach’s alpha), ensuring that the test items consistently and stablely measure the underlying emotional intelligence constructs over time.
  • Construct Validity: The assessment explicitly isolates and measures the five core dimensions of emotional intelligence popularized by Daniel Goleman (Self-Awareness, Self-Regulation, Motivation, Empathy, and Social Skills).
  • Predictive Validity: The primary advantage of their framework is its low adverse impact and bias mitigation, making it legally defensible and highly predictive for executive hiring, leadership development, and talent optimization.

The Multi-Science Assessment Advantage

In corporate psychology, a standalone EQ test can occasionally suffer from self-reporting bias (candidates answers what they think a leader should feel). The Nielson Group circumvents this by embedding EQ into a multi-science profile:

Science LayerWhat It MeasuresThe Organizational Value
Behaviors (DISC)How an individual acts and communicates.Identifies natural communication styles and situational adaptations.
Driving ForcesWhy an individual takes action and what rewards them.Pinpoints internal motivators and cultural alignment.
Emotional Quotient (EQ)How well they process, regulate, and leverage emotions.Gauges stress management, active empathy, and relationship control.

By blending these sciences, the final TriMetrix EQ report shows the intersection of a candidate’s behavioral style and their emotional maturity, providing a comprehensive, un-gameable view of workplace potential.

If you are planning to deploy an assessment tool, let me know:

  • Are you considering it for external hiring or internal leadership or team development?
  • Would you like to review how a customized job benchmark (specific to the role and culture within your company) is established to map the ideal scores to a specific role?
